Ina's Crystal Corner: Green Aventurine

Greetings Plant-Lovers!

It’s time for another installment of Ina’s Crystal Corner! This month we’re covering one of my favorite crystals for both plants and witchcraft: Green Aventurine, another member of the Quartz family that often appears in rich shades of green. That said, aventurine can come in a variety of colors including: blue, yellow, orange, brown, and grey depending on impurities. The green variant gets its appearance from chrome-bearing fuchsite (a variety of muscovite mica). Green and blue aventurine is predominately found in India, while white and orange aventurine is often found in Chile, Russia, and Spain.

This crystal derives its name from the Italian, a ventura, meaning “by chance”, which also explains why Green Aventurine is often referred to as “the Gambler’s Stone” and is associated with good luck across cultures and time. The stone is said to raise positive vibrations and create opportunities outside of one’s comfort zone. Much like Amethyst , Green Aventurine is also often viewed as a calming stone by releasing anxiety and fear. In Western Astrology, this crystal is often associated with the signs of Cancer (shout out to my fellow July Cancer babies!), Virgo, and Libra. It also also commonly associated with the heart chakra as it opens one to possibility and an open heart.

Green Aventurine isn’t just good for people, your plant babies can benefit from the variety of nutrients and minerals found in each crystal. For Green Witches such as myself, its a fan favorite for taking care of indoor plants. Green Aventurine can help enrich plant’s soil and help plants adjust to new spaces. As the “lucky” stone, this crystal can benefit your plants by protecting them from toxic environments and neglect.

A prime example in my own life: 2 years ago I inherited my mom’s Easter Cactuses (she gave up on them bc they were dying from neglect). Even though they were on death’s door, I decided to name them Mary Kate and Ashley as a tribute to my childhood icons and do my best to rescue them. I repotted both of them, did some much needed pruning, and placed a crystal in each of their pots. Mary Kate got a Green Aventurine while Ashley got a clear quartz. This was before I learned anything about gardening with crystals, so I was working off of intuition. Even though both plants were in the same exact condition, Mary Kate survived and Ashley didn’t (RIP). Had I known that clear quartz amplifies energy, I probably wouldn’t have placed it in a dying plant, but hey, at least I still have Mary Kate right?
