Plant of the Month June 2021: Ice Plant (Corpuscularia lehmannii)
Here's another adorable succulent plant you want to know more about! This beautiful plant is one among the many unique members of succulent varieties found in our shop; Corpuscularia lehmannii, better known as Ice Plant. The Ice Plant is a member of the very extensive Aizoaceae family that is made up of at least 135 genera and a total of 1900 plant species, largely native to southern Africa.
Something I’ve noticed is that the Ice Plant closely resembles the genus Lithops plant, also called living stone or stone plant. As it turns out, Lithops and Corpuscularia are in the same Aizoaceae family. It's always fun to know more about your plant babies, especially when you’re having a hard time telling them apart! So let's get to know more about how to take care of our friend, Corpuscularia lehmannii!
Buying one of our Ice Plant babies isn't as hard as raising a real baby. If you live a busy fast paced lifestyle but would also like to spruce up your house with a houseplant then this is just the plant for you. Your attention to this plant will be minimal at most.
The Ice Plant is in fact a summer baby but can also thrive during the fall. They prefer full sun but can also tolerate light shades if left next to a window. As long as the light is there, they’ll be fine. So even if you’re growing your ice plant baby indoors, make a point of giving it enough access to the sun’s rays. The brightest window will do. Now because our friend here is a succulent they do not like wet soil unless they need water. In fact overly wet soil during the winter months could potentially kill your plant. Yikes! By giving your succulent the care it needs, it may reach up to 12″ inches tall and wide.
Ice plant (Corpuscularia lehmannii) needs the following care:
Light ☀️ Full sun to light shade.
Water 💧Only when soil is completely dry. Do not overwater.
Grow 🌱 Despite the name, this is not a cold hardy plant. Ideal temperatures range from 50 to 75 degrees F for best results.
